What is Otoplasty?

Otoplasty describes a type of cosmetic surgery to beautify the appearance of the external ears. Specifically, Otoplasty is the process of surgically bringing the ears closer to the head.

Some individuals are sensitive about their ears protruding. Otoplasty is an inpatient surgery that uses general anesthetics and requires about 3 hours to perform. Incisions are usually made to gain access to and reshape the cartilage.

Ear dressings are used as a post-surgical aid to help in the healing process. Ear dressings help in reducing swelling and protecting the ears while the patient heals post-surgery. Ear dressings are typically removed between 3 to 6 days after surgery. Stitches are removed after 7 to 10 days.
